Buying a hovercraft in USA?

Hovercraft have been around for 50 + years now, and are available in all shapes and sizes, from mega military patrol size down to 1 and 2 seater for leisure use.

Here are a few pointers to remember before you select a hovercraft:
Hovercraft are weight sensitive, so many smaller ones are made from thin glass fibre to keep the weight to a minimum - GRP cracks easily and can be difficult to repair. The Hov Pod is the only hovercraft available in the USA made from HDPE or High Density Polyethylene - this is far more durable and extremely buoyant - particularly important if you venture out over ice to reach your holiday cabin 

Never ask > how many seats < this question marks you out as a complete novice. Hovercraft can carry less weight if staring from on-water, because they create a bow wave known as the hump. Hovercraft normally carry 50% more weight when starting on land, and some suppliers are let’s say, economic with the truth of their on-water payload capability. If you want to stop and start on water, be aware of the lift capability on water, otherwise, it could be a long swim home.

Check safety - some suppliers fit lawn mower engines that have been uprated to extract more air throughput, and modifications invalidate engine supplier’s warranty. Some suppliers leave off the essential fan guards to get more power output - this may be acceptable in race meetings, but in public spaces, is dangerous, so make sure both front and rear guards are fitted, especially if you want your kids to play piano, those little fingers come in sets of ten, and should remain that way.
